Courses
Board Leadership and Performance
Building high-performing boards is often a challenge for any non-profit organization. Having a board that understands the vision for the organization, and successfully guide it to attaining goals and objectives serving its mission is the underpinning of moving the non-profit forward.
Strategic Leadership
This course delves into leadership styles and approaches; problem solving; risk management; managing talent to develop emerging leaders; and streamlining management decisions. Design of a mission and vision.
Team Building and Engagement
Instructors provide the tools that develop and refine group dynamic skills and attitudes, with a focus on behavioral changes and goal-setting techniques, while also discussing the characteristics of effective teams and roles of team members.
Change Management
Responding to change positively is a necessity in today's fast-paced environment, and leaders require a clear understanding of organizational change to propel their organizations forward. This course outlines what is meant by change, as well as the importance and benefits of implementation. Leaders will learn a variety of practical approaches for managing organizational change while considering factors such as the time allotted for the change, the expected degree of change, and the potential resistance to change within the organization.
Organizational Development
Attendees learn how to identify and alleviate bottlenecks within the organization and promote the ongoing effort to improve services and processes. Additional topics include deciding how to increase value of services to the customer (measuring effectiveness); meeting challenging needs; developing groups to gain employee buy-in; and encouraging management to reinforce teamwork and improve employee motivation.
Conflict and Challenging Employees
This course Stresses the importance of resolving conflict so productivity is not hindered and goals are not subjugated. Attendees learn the causes of conflict, how to avoid conflict, and successfully manage inevitable conflicts that arise in the workplace.
Communication for Management
Supervisors develop and refine the skills necessary for effective organizational communications with a focus on developing and understanding verbal, nonverbal, and formal communication skills. Emphasis is placed on identifying, developing, and overcoming the barriers to effective communication, and the demonstration of effective listening skills.
Motivating and Engaging the Team
Participants will learn that no "one way" fits all; how to identify intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Individuals participate in discussions regarding the different generations and overall diverse backgrounds to levels of motivation.
Public Speaking and Presentations
Teaches participants the use of language to convey messages to audiences; appropriate body language and presentation approaches; utilizing techniques to control anxiety; hints and tips on how to convey a professional appearance; preparing effective presentations; and how to respond to audience questions and engage the audience.
Time Matters Management (organizing workspace and time)
Provides useful tools to achieve greater productivity by focusing on the critical activities that move tasks forward. Classes cover identifying and focusing on the most important and productive parts of work; prioritizing and segmenting work for greater impact and results; differentiating between urgent and important tasks; addressing distractions, procrastination, and multi-tasking; increasing focus and mindfulness; organizing physical space for efficiency and the elimination of wasted time; and, identifying personal time wasters and learning how to manage them effectively.
Diversity (generational, cultural and personality differences/difficult people/conflict resolution)
Employees learn to work with diverse populations, including generational, cultural, physical, personal and emotional differences, as well as understand the advantages of valuing those differences. Additionally, it is illustrated how behaviors are stereotyped, how culture affects performance, and how to welcome and work in a diversified environment.
Business Writing and Grammar (written correspondence, writing emails, phone etiquette, texting)
Covers basic grammar and the principles of effective business writing in a variety of formats, including emails, reports, and letters. Attendees learn how to edit written communications for inconsistencies, eliminate exclusive language and expressions that do not adhere to the reader's level of technical expertise; also maintain a proper tone, and the use and misuse of social media for business purposes. Class curriculum is achieved using lecture, as well as individual and small group activities that enable participants to discover and practice new skills.
Workplace Ethics, Accountability & Expectations
Participating employees are trained in relevant labor and employment law that guides behavior for employees. Individuals explore the two vital steps to ethics: one, knowing what is right and, two, doing it against the demands of working in a real-world environment. Discussion centers on public trust, the related idea that our citizens demand confidence in the integrity of business, and how being accountable to these principals lays the foundation for the ethics and the laws that establish standards of behavior.
Customer Service
Teaches practical ways on how to treat customers professionally; how to respond to customer complaints, rudeness, and misinformation; and when one cannot say, "Yes." The course will demonstrate how to turn a complaint or frustration into understanding, and how to successfully work together internally to meet organizational goals. Incorporates real life situations employees may encounter, including improving workplace cooperation, productivity, and motivation; breaking down the "silo" mentality; customers becoming upset; clients making unwanted advances; and, when a client will not end a conversation. Finally, participants receive a checklist of tools and techniques designed to help everyone in their organization and ultimately serve the customer.
Fundraising
It can be daunting in the social media environment to feel confident that the best fundraising efforts are always being made. This course advises managers and employees on the effective methods of promoting the non-profit organization through more effective event planning, social networking, campaign organization, donor relations, and different fundraising techniques.
